Disc Golf

What is Disc Golf?
Disc Golf is an up-and-coming sport where players follow rules very similar to regular golf, while throwing discs rather than hitting golf balls. It is a sport that all ages and experience levels can enjoy.

Lakeshore's Course
Our course consists of 18 holes and winds around the camp, through open areas and woods. It begins northwest of our waterfront, right next to Lakeshore's soccer field and prayer labyrinth. The course ends near the Low Ropes Course. Players have an option of playing all 18 holes or simply playing a shortened 9 hole route (when you finish hole 3, you cut across to hole 13 and that will give you 9 holes to play). Signs will guide you through the course, mapping out each hole and directing you to the next one.

What do I need to do to play?
Retreat guests who are already staying at Lakeshore may play disc golf whenever they wish.

People who would like to visit the camp specifically to play the disc golf course should call the office beforehand and make our staff aware of the date and estimated arrival time for your visit (We want our course to be as available as possible, but since Lakeshore is a private camp and due to liability concerns, we want to make sure we account for everyone who is on the property). Once the reservation has been made, you are free to come and play.

During Summer Camp season (Memorial Day weekend to the first week in August), the disc golf course will be closed to outside guests, except on Saturdays after noon. Guests should still call beforehand to play on Saturdays during the summer.

The Disc Golf Course is free of charge for anyone playing.

Guestbook
Please sign our guestbook if you play our course. It will help us know how much usage the course is getting, and it will allow us to keep you posted on events and tournaments we may host in the future.

Discs
For those who do not have your own discs, Lakeshore has a limited supply. In order to use them, come to the office or contact a Lakeshore staff member. Please put your name, date and the number on the back of the disc on the register. We ask for $10 in compensation for lost discs. All discs are Innova Sharks.

Lakeshore also sells custom discs in the canteen. When in stock, they include Innova Wraith, Valkyrie (both drivers), Roc (mid-range), and Aviar (Putter).

Concerns
In order to play the entire course, players must cross a highway twice (Pilot Knob Rd., Hwy 191). The street is normally not heavily trafficked, but players should exercise normal caution when crossing the street and avoid throwing discs toward the street.

From July through September, there are many ticks on the course. They come in all sizes, too, some being very tiny and in large numbers. They are especially abundant in spots off the main fairways where one might inadvertently throw a disc off course. So far, we have noticed their heaviest concentrations to be on Holes 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14 (though they are certainly not limited to those holes). Bug spray is recommended during the summer, and long pants should be a consideration.

We have found barbed wire on parts of the course that once marked old property lines. We believe we have removed all the barbed wire that would be of concern, but we recommend keeping a watchful eye and alerting us of any new barbed wire found on the course.
