Prayer Labyrinth

Our garden Prayer Labyrinth gives guests a chance to pray and meditate in the outdoors. Located just a short walk from the Calhoun and Hopper Lodges, you will find, in the field, a single branching path that leads to a center point. While walking the path that winds around itself, let your mind wander. It is a great tool to slow down and discover what God may be communicating to you.

A basic guide to walking the labyrinth
• Walk at your own pace.
• When you reach the center, stay as long as you like.
• When meeting someone on the path, pass to the right.
• Don’t try to predict your experience. Receive what God
    has for you.
• You may want to repeat a particular prayer, Bible verse
or poem to yourself as you walk.
Take a few moments at the entrance to reflect on where you are in life. Set aside the busyness and the need to rush. Breathe deeply and approach the path at one or more of these ways:
Gracious Attention: Quiet your mind. Release thoughts. Walk with a grateful heart. Don't analyze, question or understand. Gently be with your feelings and sensations.
Asking a Question: Focus on a question. Walk with a listening heart.
Use of Repetition: Say a word, prayer, verse or phrase to yourself over and over.
Reading Scripture or a Spiritual Text: Slowly and meditatively read from those writings as you walk.
Engage in Prayer as you Walk: Bring to mind persons or intentions you wish to commend to God, or name gifts, people, experiences for which you are thankful. Recite your favorite prayer. Just talk to God.
